Local animal protection group Anima President Albano Martins said yesterday his group would like to temporarily take care of the over 600 greyhounds at the local dog racetrack, and vowed to continue with the group’s global campaign to get the dogs adopted.
Martins made the remarks during a press conference at the group’s office in Nam Van.
In July last year, the government told the racetrack operator, Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd., which is headed by gaming executive-cum-lawmaker Angela Leong On Kei, to vacate the property in Fai Chi Kei, a public land concession, within two years. The company’s concession to run greyhound racing will expire on July 20 next year.
