Macau Autism Association (MAA) Director General Nicole Chan Sio Man said yesterday that parents of children with developmental problems or with special education needs (SEN) could help their child at home by using an indirect model.

Chan made the remarks during a press conference about a series of activities aiming to help those parents, at the Macau Deaf Association in Fai Chi Kei.

In the direct model of early intervention, a therapist provides services directly to children. The indirect model provides services to parents rather than directly to children, such as showing the parents techniques to teach their children at home.
