A female corpse was found yesterday floating in the harbour near the bus terminal in Barra, according to a statement by the Judiciary Police (PJ).
According to the statement, the body was discovered by a local man at around 1 p.m. yesterday while he was sailing off Barra. He called 999.
The Customs Service sent a boat to the scene and the body was pulled from harbour and taken aboard the vessel. The corpse was then taken to the Customs Service base in Ilha Verde.
The statement said that the deceased was estimated to have been in her 50s or 60s. No identification documents were found on the body. The police said an autopsy would be carried out in order to confirm the cause of death.
