Indonesia’s Komodo National Park has been historically more popular among Europeans, particularly Germans, but in the past two years there has been a significant increase in the number of mainland Chinese tourists visiting the park. Now the park’s management is keen to attract visitors from Macau and Hong Kong too.

Park official Abdul Rahman, who has worked in the park for 30 years, told Macau and Hong Kong media on Rinca Island yesterday, “In the past, most foreign tourists came from Europe, especially Germany … two years ago we started having more Chinese tourists.”

So far, however, none that he knew of came from Cantonese-speaking regions of China, including Macau and Hong Kong, Rahman said, adding that the park “surely” wanted to also welcome tourists from the two Chinese cities.
