The Judiciary Police (PJ) questioned two local men on Monday for attempting to defraud the government out of a subsidy and an interest-free loan for businesses affected by the deadly Super Typhoon Hato which hit Macau in August last year, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Ho identified the two suspects as a 28-year-old casino host surnamed Chan and a 28-year-old businessman surnamed Ieng.
After Hato pummelled Macau on August 23, which caused massive flooding in the city’s low-lying areas, the government handed out a subsidy of up to 50,000 patacas to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) affected by Hato as well as an interest-free loan of up to 600,000 patacas.
