Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac says the government needs to hold an international public tender when the city’s current gaming concessions and sub-concession expire in 2020/2022, adding that the conditions of the tender would be defined by law.
According to Macau’s legal system, any amendments to the current gaming law would have to be passed by the Legislative Assembly (AL) to take legal effect.
Leong, whose portfolio includes supervision of the gaming industry, made the remarks in an interview with the Portuguese-language radio channel of government-owned broadcaster TDM. The interview was broadcast on Saturday. Leong’s remarks in Cantonese were translated into Portuguese.
