The Hollywood Reporter (THR) magazine reported yesterday that apart from Chen Kaige’s appointment as jury head the festival has also announced that it is adding contemporary Chinese cinema and family film sections for its upcoming third edition late this year.
Mainland Chinese filmmaker Chen Kaige, 65, will serve as international jury president at Macau International Film Festival on December 8-14, according to the report.
Chen is famously the only Chinese filmmaker ever to have won the Cannes Palme d’Or – in 1993 for Farewell My Concubine. His most recent film was the big-budget fantasy spectacle The Legend of the Cat Demon, a Chinese-Japanese co-production released last year.
