A Hong Kong man was arrested in Taipa yesterday for repeatedly abusing the 999 hotline earlier this year, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday in Zape yesterday.

Cheong said the suspect, surnamed Liu, is a warehouse worker in his thirties.

Cheong said that on the evening of February 26, the local emergency hotline received a total of 38 calls within 26 minutes from a man with a Hong Kong number. The man, who spoke to hotline operators using foul language, said things like “I have a lot of time” and “I am going to play with you guys [the police]”. In the more than three dozen nuisance calls, the suspect told operators that he kept calling so as to block others from calling in.
