Right after Viva Macau ceased to operate eight years ago, Indonesian’s flag carrier Garuda Indonesia Airlines planned to start a direct route between Macau and an Indonesian city, but for various reasons the plan never got off the ground.
“We had plans for it before but eventually we didn’t do it because the market [in Macau] was not enough to start a new [Garuda Indonesia] route,” Marvin Wong, assistant sales manager of Garuda Indonesia’s Hong Kong office, was quoted by Indonesia’s Kumbang Toh News yesterday.
According to the report, Wong made the remarks on the sidelines of the “Indonesia Sales Mission” event hosted by the Visit Indonesia Tourism Office (VITO) Hong Kong at Sofitel Ponte 16 Hotel in the Inner Harbour, which was aimed at connecting Indonesia’s hospitality and tourism business owners with local travel agencies in the hope of creating tour packages for Macau people to visit Indonesia in the very near future.
