The Macau Customs Service said in a statement on Friday that its officers have busted three illegal immigration cases and caught 10 suspects from the mainland, Myanmar and Vietnam.

The Judiciary Police (PJ) notified the Customs Services on Thursday night about a suspected people-smuggling case, involving six illegal immigrants and a “snakehead” caught in Zone E1, a land reclamation area off the northern coast of Taipa between Friendship Bridge and Pac On Ferry Terminal. The Customs Service deployed its officers to the scene to assist the police in processing the seven suspects.

In Cantonese jargon, people smugglers are known as snakeheads.
