Chen Sixi, a vice-director of the Central People’s Government Liaison Office in Macau, said yesterday it had been “very necessary” for Macau’s nine principal officials and the chief prosecutor to participate in last month’s special training programme in Beijing, adding that the intensive training achieved “good results”.

Chen made the remarks while speaking to reporters after attending a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Alliance for Common People Building Up Macau (API) at The Plaza Restaurant in Zape.

Chen is one of the four deputy directors of the Liaison Office. He has been a member of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) since March.

Chen also said that the special training programmes for Macau’s senior officials on the mainland should continue in the future.

The 10 local officials went to Beijing on April 21 to attend intensive training sessions at the Chinese Academy of Governance, followed by a fact-finding trip to Jiangsu province. The delegation’s trip to the mainland lasted five days.

The 10 local participants in the training programme in Beijing were Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan, Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac, Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng, Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosario, Commissioner Against Corruption André Cheong Weng Chon, Commissioner of Audit Ho Veng On, Unitary Police Service (SPU) Commissioner-General Ma Io Kun, Macau Customs Service Director-General Alex Vong Iao Lek, and Public Prosecutor- General Ip Son Sang.

The local government said that the training programme, the first of its kind, aimed to deepen the officials’ understanding of the nation’s development strategy and its latest socio-economic development, which would help Macau integrate its own development into the overall national development.
