A local woman has been cheated out of 1.75 million yuan (around 2.22 million patacas) in a telephone scam, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said during a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Lei, the victim is in her forties.
Lei said that in the afternoon of April 27, the victim received a phone call from a Putonghua-speaking man who claimed to be a delivery company staff member. He told her that a parcel she had sent had been seized by the mainland’s Public Security Bureau, claiming that she had engaged in criminal activities.
