Amax says hotel takeover by Suncity ‘untrue’

Hong Kong-listed Amax International Holdings said in a statement to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange yesterday that reported claims by junket operator Suncity that it was now controlling the mothballed Beijing Imperial Palace Hotel in Taipa are “untrue”.

The Hong Kong and Macau media reports, including by the Portuguese-language Jornal Tribuna de Macau, said that Suncity boss Alvin Chau Cheok Wa had “confirmed” that he was the new owner of the hotel, formerly known as New Century Hotel, and that he was planning to reapply for the hotel licence and redevelop the hotel. 

The hotel, which lost its licence in 2016 due to alleged irregularities, included the Greek Mythology Casino.
