Transport Bureau (DSAT) Director Lam Hin San said yesterday it was hard to tackle rogue cabbies at the moment as the penalties for their violations were “too soft” under current regulations.
Lam made the remarks on the sidelines of a road safety activity hosted by his bureau at the Macau Federation of Trade Unions’ Workers Stadium near the Barrier Gate.
There have been more and more media reports about rogue cabbies. Last month, the police arrested several taxi drivers for various violations, including aiding illegal immigrants, keeping passengers’ belongings, as well as abducting, blackmailing and harassing passengers.
