The government yesterday launched a 40-day public consultation about its proposed changes to the current rules on the city’s vocational education system with the aim of enabling vocational education pupils to be more competitive in the job market.

The city’s schools are allowed to run vocational training in F4 to F6, according to the Non-higher Education System Framework Law enacted in 2006.

The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) made the announcement during a press conference yesterday after a closed-door regular meeting of the Non-tertiary Education Committee. DSEJ officials briefed members of the government-appointed committee about the government’s proposed changes to the city’s vocational education rules.
