A mainlander, a self-confessed member of a loansharking gang, was arrested on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in causing another mainlander’s death fall in Zape last year, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said during a special press conference on Friday.

The spokesperson identified the suspect as a 29-year-old surnamed Cen, who told police that he works as a bar manager. The deceased is a 30-year-old man surnamed Chen, who was a manager of a mainland beverage company.

The spokesperson said that Chen came to Macau to gamble on April 23 last year. Two days later, Chen went to a casino in the city centre, where he asked members of a loan-sharking gang for a HK$50,000 instant gambling loan. While he was gambling, the victim was watched over by five members of the gang who collected instant “interest” on the loan from Chen every time he won a bet.
