Lawmaker-cum-gaming executive Angela Leong On Kei urged the government yesterday to consider allowing the operator of the city’s greyhound racetrack – Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd. – to use the property “for some time” after its lease expires so that the greyhounds can wait for adoption in the kennels that “they are familiar with”, considering that the government has still not come up with its final development plan for the plot where the racetrack is located.
Referring to an event on Sunday at the racetrack in Fai Chi Kei for retired greyhounds to be adopted, Leong said she understood that adoption applications for more than 50 greyhounds had been submitted on that day.
The company, of which Leong is the executive director, held greyhound adoption events on two previous Sundays – June 17 and 24 – at the racetrack.
