Members of the Macau General Union of Neighbourhood Associations (Kai Fong), along with a number of residents, petitioned the government yesterday against its proposal to build Macau’s first crematorium at Taipa Sa Kong Municipal Cemetery.
The petitioners handed a petition to an official of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) at the bureau’s headquarters in Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro.
Speaking to reporters after handing in the petition, Cheng Son Meng, a vice president of the group, said that the government’s proposed location of the city’s first crematorium – Taipa Sa Kong Municipal Cemetery – was too close to residential buildings. He said that residents living nearby were worried about the possible pollution resulting from the crematorium.
