A mainland woman visiting Macau was arrested on Sunday for attacking two Public Security Police (PSP) officers and attempting to grab the gun of one of them, PSP spokesman Ho Ka Kit said during a regular police press conference yesterday.
According to Ho, the suspect is a woman in her thirties surnamed Wang, who works as an interpreter.
Ho said that at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Public Security Police received a report about a woman walking across Sai Van Bridge towards Taipa. A policeman arrived at the scene as Wang was walking along the 2.2-kilometre bridge. Ho did not say how the officer arrived there. The officer questioned Wang and asked for her identification documents, but she was refused to show any. Later she became emotional and pushed the officer.
According to Ho, as there were many vehicles passing by at that time the officer was concerned for Wang’s safety. He hailed a passing taxi and told the cabbie to take the woman to a leisure area in Taipa.
Ho said that another male officer then arrived at the scene to assist his colleague. When asked to show her ID again, Wang flashed the document at the policemen for “less than a second” and then immediately put it away, according to Ho.
Meanwhile, Wang aimed a punch at one of the two policemen and attempted to grab his gun. Thwarted on both attempts, she
kicked the officer’s legs instead. The two PSP officers eventually detained her.
Under questioning, Wang claimed that she refused to cooperate and attacked the policemen as she “didn’t feel secure” talking to them. The woman didn’t explain why she was walking across Sai Van Bridge.
Ho said that the case was transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for further investigation on Monday. Wang is facing charges of aggravated assault resisting and disobeying an officer, according to Ho.
