Members of the Public Security Police (PSP), Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) and Health Bureau (SSM) on Saturday removed rotten food from a blast-hit restaurant in Areia Preta to ensure the neighbourhood’s public hygiene, the Public Security Police said in a statement yesterday.

The explosion last Tuesday occurred in the Fujianese restaurant on the ground floor of Block 2 of Pak Lei Estate in Avenida do Hipodromo which killed a woman and injured six other people. According to the Fire Services Bureau (CB), the blast was caused by gas leaking from at least one of the restaurant’s LPG cylinders.

According to the statement, the Public Security Police on Saturday morning became aware of the worsening public hygiene situation at the blast scene as the food in the eatery’s refrigerators was rotting and emitting a foul odour.

This handout photo taken on Saturday and provided by the Public Security Police (PSP) yesterday shows PSP officers removing a refrigerator filled with rotten food from the blast-hit Chinese restaurant in Areia Preta district.
