Members of the Urban Planning Council (CPU) were divided yesterday on the possible preservation of a 60-year-old residential high-rise in the city centre – or its possible demolition.

Yesterday’s regular meeting of the government-appointed council, held at the Transport Bureau (DSAT) Building, included a discussion about the proposed legal development conditions for the plot on which the residential building is situated.

The 12-storey Rainha D. Leonor Edifice is located at the corner of Avenida de D. João IV and Avenida do Infante D. Henrique, next to Hotel Sintra. According to local architects, the 44-metre-high building was constructed in the late 1950s.
