The government should implement more resources to help local schools carry out aptitude tests for pupils, so that they can discover their strengths at an early stage of their life, Gary Kou Chon Fai, president of the Macau Professional Development Association, said yesterday.

Kou made the remarks during an interview on the sidelines of an education forum, which took place at a youth activity centre of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) in Areia Preta.

Kou said that an aptitude test could help pupils understand where their talents lie, such as whether they are better at academic or vocational subjects. He said that the earlier they discover where their strengths lie, the better it would be for them to decide what to study in the future, adding that an aptitude test could be carried out as early as in primary school.
