A Vietnamese maid was arrested by the Judiciary Police (PJ) yesterday morning for running fake base stations in Toi San district, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said during a regular press conference at the PJ headquarters in Zape yesterday.
According to Ho, the suspect is a 37-year-old surnamed Pham, who has worked as a domestic helper for a family in Iao Hon district for two years.
A fake base station consists of telecom equipment which sends out a signal, disconnecting mobile phone users in a certain area from their legitimate base stations who then receive messages from the bogus one instead.
