The government launches a one-month public consultation today on the drafting of a bill regulating its temporary housing scheme and its “home swap” scheme – for residents affected by the future urban renewal process.

The government’s proposal for this piece of legislation also aims to tackle the long-running Pearl Horizon row. When the government announced in May its proposed solution to the Pearl Horizon incident – the construction of a temporary housing project on the ill-fated residential project site in Areia Preta, it said the implementation of the proposed solution would require legislation on its temporary housing plan and that it would launch a public consultation on the matter in the third quarter.

A press conference about the public consultation was held yesterday on the premises of the government’s Policy Research Office (GEP) in Taipa. The consultation will end on September 20.
