Since the beginning of this month, the Judiciary Police (PJ) have received reports from more than 20 local residents about their credit cards being used without authorisation, and all of them had made transactions on a foreign travel agency website before the hacking, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam announced during a regular press conference yesterday.
Ho didn’t reveal the full name of the website – on which all the victims had made online payments – but said that the name began with the letter “K”.
Ho said that the victims all made purchases on the website, such as buying flight tickets. After their transactions, the victims received multiple other payment messages even though they hadn’t used their credit cards. The victims have lost a total of US$16,000 (129,400 patacas).
