An exterior wall of an old house that is part of the Largo do Lilau neighbourhood under the city’s Heritage Protection Law has collapsed, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said yesterday.
The bureau said in a statement that the collapsed structure was the back wall of an empty house at 6 Calçada do Lilau. While the alley is part of the classified Largo do Lilau (Lilau Square) and Beco do Lilau (Lilau Alley) ensemble, the Largo do Lilau is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites collectively known as the Historic Centre of Macau.
The IC statement said that regarding the apparent lack of maintenance of the house, the bureau sent out a letter to the owner in 2016 ordering repairs to be carried out. In March this year, the bureau and the Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) inspected the condition of the edifice and again ordered the owner to carry out the relevant repairs.
