The Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement that they are investigating a suspected arson case on the ground floor of the long-abandoned Catholic Centre building in the city centre yesterday afternoon.
The Catholic Centre, located at the junction of Rua do Campo, Rua Formosa and Avenida da Praia Grande, has been vacant for over two decades.
According to the statement, a passer-by saw smoke coming from inside a metal trellis shutter on the ground floor of the building at 2:50 p.m. The blaze had been extinguished by passers-by before firefighters arrived at the scene, the statement said.
