A taxi driver has been arrested for cheating a couple out of about HK$900 by intentionally giving them the wrong change, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said during a regular press conference on Friday.
According to the spokesperson, the cabbie is a 30-year-old local man surnamed Lam.
The spokesperson said that last Thursday evening, a mainland couple got into Lam’s taxi in Cotai for a trip to Rua do Cunha in Taipa. When they arrived, the fare on the meter showed 31 patacas. As the couple didn’t have enough patacas, they asked Lam to let them pay in Hong Kong dollars, which Lam accepted.
