Guest speakers and members of the audience at yesterday’s Macau Forum agreed with the government’s proposal that not all the 24 public bus routes – that used the underground bus terminal at the Barrier Gate border checkpoint before it was severely damaged by floodwaters during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Hato on August 23 last year – should return there once it is fully operational again.
The weekly open-air debate is hosted by government-owned broadcaster TDM in Areia Preta Park every Sunday.
Since the poorly ventilated underground terminal was severely damaged by the Hato-induced floods, it has been out of operation, much to the chagrin of residents and visitors alike.

Passengers yesterday get on a 3X Route bus at a bus stop in Istmo de Ferreira do Amaral near the Barrier Gate border checkpoint. The bus stop serves as the temporary “terminal” station for bus routes 3 and 3X, which are among the 24 bus routes that were rerouted to other locations as their provisional “terminal” station after the Barrier Gate underground bus terminal went out of operation following the onslaught of Super Typhoon Hato on August 23 last year.
