Directly-elected non-establishment lawmaker Au Kam San has said that he refuses to apologise to the Judiciary Police (PJ) for his remarks last month in which he wondered whether the police had illegally carried out phone tapping, adding that the request made by the police last week was “ridiculous”.

Au also said that the police’s possible launch of a criminal procedure against any lawmaker over his or her remarks expressing concern about the police’s possible illegality in carrying out their tasks would amount to a situation not in line with Macau as a role model for the successful implementation of the “one country, two systems” principle.

A copy of a letter dated October 8, Au sent to the Judiciary Police, telling them about his refusal to apologise was sent to local media yesterday.
