A male domestic helper in his forties from Vietnam has been found providing unlicensed dental services in a residential unit in Iao Hon district, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Cheong said that 30 Vietnamese had received dental treatment from the suspect, surnamed Nguyen, during a period of over two months. The suspect also worked as a bogus dental surgeon in his home country before coming to Macau to work as a domestic helper, according to Cheong.
PSP officers and officials of the Health Bureau (SSM) jointly busted the fake dental clinic in Rua Um do Bairro Iao Hon last Friday after the police had been tipped off about the case, Cheong said. Various medicines and pieces of equipment, including a dental chair, were seized from the flat.
Nguyen came to Macau in July and worked as a domestic helper. After working for five days, he vanished, according to Cheong.
Under questioning, Nguyen told PSP officers that he and his girlfriend in her fifties – also from Vietnam – rented the flat in Iao Hon for 3,500 patacas a month and set up a “dental clinic”, Cheong said.
Nguyen’s girlfriend was not involved in the unlicensed dental services, according to Cheong.
According to Cheong, Nguyen then bought medical equipment, including the dental chair, and medicines from Vietnam on the internet. The purchased items were delivered to Macau via courier delivery services. Nguyen also asked his compatriots to buy medicines for him from Vietnam and bring them to him in Macau.
