Businesses in Hong Kong and Macau should give more support to social service organisations, Ernest Chui Wing-tak, an associate professor of social work at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), said yesterday.
Chui made the remarks on the sidelines of a social work seminar at the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) in Zape.
“If possible, it would be better if social service organisations become financially independent. However, I also think governments are responsible for providing social services,” Chui said, adding that social service organisations should try to reduce their reliance on government funding.
