The government plans to reconstruct the heritage-listed Red Market, with the height to remain unchanged and its outer walls intact, according to the proposed legal development conditions for the plot on which the wet market is situated, which were published by the Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) yesterday.

The Red Market, officially known as Almirante Lacerda Municipal Market, is located on the corner of Avenida de Horta e Costa and Avenida do Almirante Lacerda.

The Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau has drafted the legal development conditions for the plot as the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) – the entity managing the city’s wet markets – has applied to rebuild the Red Market with the aim of improving its facilities.

This photo taken late last month shows the heritage-protected Red Market on the corner of Avenida de Horta e Costa and Avenida do Almirante Lacerda. The photo was retrieved yesterday from a document of the proposed legal development conditions for the plot on which the municipal wet market is situated, which were published by the Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) yesterday.
