An 18-year-old schoolgirl was hit by a car yesterday morning when she was on a zebra crossing near the S. Francisco Barracks, the police said.

According to the police, the accident happened at around 7 a.m. in Estrada de S. Francisco – a hillside road running up from the barracks to the public Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre. The car hit the pupil when she was walking across the zebra crossing at the junction of the road and Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues.

The victim suffered abrasions to her left knee and right arm and lost three teeth. The pupil, who remained conscious, was rushed to the nearby public hospital for emergency treatment.

The police said that the 60-year-old driver passed a breathalyser test.
