The police arrested a Hong Kong woman when she returned to Macau on Tuesday after having allegedly stolen HK$220,000 in cash and cash chips from a mainlander here last year, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said yesterday.
According to the spokesperson, the woman, a 25-year-old surnamed Fan, who claimed to be a bank employee, came to Macau in June last year where she befriended a mainland man in his thirties at a casino-hotel in Cotai, after seeing him putting his winnings from the gaming table into his bag.
The spokesperson said that Fan asked the man if she could rest in his hotel room as she had gambled all her money away and had nowhere to sleep. The man agreed and took her to his suite. The next day, Fan asked the victim if she could use the bathroom in the suite’s other room. After a while the victim realised that Fan had left and when he checked his bag, the entire HK$140,000 in cash and cash chips worth HK$70,000 had vanished.
