A 35-year-old man from Hong Kong working as a tutor at a private tutorial centre in Macau was arrested on Monday for forcing a 14-year-old schoolboy to perform oral sex on him several times, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon announced during a special press conference yesterday.

The victim is a pupil in the centre. The tutor, who is working in Macau as a non-resident worker, committed his alleged sex crimes in the tutorial centre in Fai Chi Kei, according to Leng.

The suspect, surnamed Tam, forced the victim to perform oral sex on him by threatening to tell his family that he was dating, which the schoolboy had concealed from his family, according to Leng. The victim’s parents only got to know the case after his girlfriend had told them about it.

PJ officers also discovered that there were another four victims attending tutorial classes at the centre. Tam forced the victims – separately – to perform oral sex on him, to masturbate in front of him, and to masturbate him, according to Leng.

The suspect faces charges of rape for the forced oral sex, charges of sexual coercion, and charges of sexual abuse of children, Leng said.

In a special press conference convened by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) shortly after the police announcement of the case yesterday afternoon, DSEJ officials said that the bureau had suspended the operation of the private tutorial centre. They also said that the bureau would arrange for the students of the tutorial centre to continue attending tutorial classes in venues provided by the bureau.

According to Leng, the victim’s parents took their son to the PJ headquarters on Sunday and reported that the teenager had been forced by a male tutor of a tutorial centre – Tam – to perform oral sex on the latter.

After an investigation, PJ officers discovered that the tutor had found out that the victim concealed the fact that he was dating a schoolgirl from his parents. Consequently, the suspect – by threatening to tell his family about the girlfriend – forced the schoolboy to perform oral sex on him six times at the tutorial centre – every time before its operating hours – between October 6 and
November 10, Leng said, adding that every time Tam told the victim to come to the centre about one hour prior to its operating hours so that he could sexually abuse the boy.
