Hundreds of residents yesterday protested against the government’s proposal that a company can arrange for its employees to take up to three out of four mandatory holidays (New Year’s Day, Ching Ming Festival, the day following the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Chung Yeung Festival) on three other days of the city’s various non-mandatory holidays, without the need to give the employees extra pay, based on mutual agreement.

The demonstration was organised by an ad-hoc group opposing the proposal called “Wage Earners Alliance”.

The protestors started the demonstration in Vasco da Gama Garden at around 4 p.m.
