Taking a cab from the taxi rank outside the checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) or from the HZMB man-made island will cost passengers 5 patacas extra from December 8, according to an executive order published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday.
A statement by the Transport Bureau (DSAT) said the surcharge was a way of compensating cabbies for the additional time and fuel costs required to arrive at the HZMB area.
The new measure also applies to the taxi rank at the Cotai Lotus Flower Bridge border checkpoint.
The DSAT statement pointed out that cabbies are already allowed to charge passengers the 5 pataca surcharge when getting into a cab at the taxi ranks outside the local airport, Pac On Ferry Terminal, and the University of Macau’s Hengqin campus.
