The Judiciary Police (PJ) received complaints by 25 people between December 11and yesterday, all saying that a local woman surnamed Cheang had cheated them out of money by claiming to provide an investment scheme with a high rate of return, according to a PJ statement yesterday evening.
The statement said that Cheang claimed to be from a real-estate agency and told each of the victims that there was an investment scheme which could provide a high rate of return and persuaded them to put money into the scheme.
Cheang allegedly cheated the 25 victims out of a total HK$167 million, the statement said, adding that each of them lost between HK$200,000 and HK$60 million.
