The Judiciary Police (PJ) said yesterday a woman lost 15,000 patacas in a scam in December in which she was told by a man she met through WeChat that she could receive 60,000 patacas within three months after investing 15,000 patacas in the stock market.
A PJ spokesperson announced details of the case during a regular press briefing. The female victim, who is a non-resident worker employed by a local hotel, reported the scam to the police on Tuesday.
The spokesperson said the victim in December talked to a male foreigner on WeChat. Both communicated in English. The foreigner told her that he was a stock market expert. The foreigner also claimed that he could guarantee a high return on the victim’s investment.
