Executive Council spokesman Leong Heng Teng said yesterday the government had decided to allow fresh meat, poultry and fish vendors to operate near municipal wet markets.
Leong announced the decision during a special press conference at Government Headquarters yesterday.
The spokesman for the government’s top advisory body said that according to a government regulation published in 1996, only frozen food retailers were allowed to operate within a certain radius of municipal markets. The government amended the regulation in 2001, allowing vegetable vendors to also sell within the radius.
