The Public Police Security (PSP) arrested a male taxi driver on Friday for reporting a false theft to the police claiming that four passengers had stolen cash from his vehicle, PSP spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Wong identified the suspect as a 30-year-old local resident surnamed Ng. The four passengers are from the mainland.

According to Wong, the suspect reported the false crime out of anger after discovering that the four passengers had touched his taxi driver licence ID card in his vehicle when he returned to his vehicle after going to the toilet. This occurred after the four passengers had thwarted the suspect’s attempt to overcharge them, and the cabbie, in response, drove his vehicle back to where he had picked up them, left his cab, and went to the toilet.
