The Health Bureau (SSM) confirmed yesterday two cases of measles, urging the parents of babies who have not yet been vaccinated against the disease to take extra precautions.

According to an SSM statement, the first case is a 7-month-old baby girl who came down with cough, fever, nasal discharge and conjunctivitis last Tuesday. On the following day, the parents took her to a private clinic after she developed a rash all over the body. The baby was admitted to the emergency department of the private Kiang Wu Hospital last Friday. She was diagnosed with measles by the Public Health Laboratory of the Health Bureau yesterday.

The baby was born in Macau and has not yet been vaccinated against measles because of her age. She remains at the hospital’s isolation ward. The SSM statement said that her condition was stable.
