The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a local woman on Tuesday for cheating a local businesswoman out of HK$601,000 by claiming to be able to provide two investment schemes with a high rate of return, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Ho identified the suspect as a 60-year-old local woman surnamed Lam who told the police that she is unemployed. The victim, whose surname was not given during the presser, is in her fifties.
The victim met Lam in September 2017 when they were both aboard a cruise ship in Hong Kong and they became good friends, Ho said.
