Mainland’s slowdown spurs first casino revenue drop since 2016

Macau’s monthly casino revenue has fallen for the first time since July 2016 as mainland China’s economic slowdown deterred high rollers – but the drop was less steep than expected, fueling a relief rally in gaming shares.

Gross gaming revenue fell 5 percent last month to 24.9 billion patacas from a year earlier, according to data from the Gaming Inspection & Coordination Bureau (DICJ) last week.

Last month’s revenue was the lowest since September last year.
