Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak reaffirmed yesterday that a new mode of clearance based on the so-called “joint inspection and one-time release” principle will be adopted at the future mainland-Macau joint checkpoint on Hengqin Island in Zhuhai.
Under this new customs and immigration clearance system, travellers are required to pass border controls only once when completing their departure and arrival formalities.
The policy secretary described the relocation of Macau’s Lotus Flower Bridge checkpoint to the adjacent island as a “complicated” matter.
