A 22-year-old local female scooter rider died in the early hours of Saturday after a crash with a car driven by a non-resident worker from the mainland who allegedly was working illegally as a chauffeur when the accident happened in Cotai on Friday afternoon, the Public Security Police (PSP) said on Saturday.
The 40-year-old male driver was transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) on Saturday morning, facing a possible charge of homicide by negligence, the police said.
The hiring of non-local professional drivers – both for passenger and goods vehicles – is prohibited by the government.
