The police arrested a local man on Friday for allegedly cheating a mainlander out of HK$10 million, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said in a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Lei, the suspect is a 30-year-old man surnamed Kuok. He told the police he is unemployed. The victim is a mainlander in his thirties whose surname was not revealed by the spokeswoman. He told the police he is a businessman.
On August 1, 2017 the victim was still on the mainland and unable to join his mainland friends on a gambling trip to Macau. Therefore, he asked Kuok to go to a VIP room in a casino in Taipa, where he already had a VIP account, to sign a note on his behalf to get casino chips for his friends to gamble with, according to Lei.
