A local female gambler cheated a couple out of HK$4 million by claiming that she required their authorisation for signing a note to obtain casino chips, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Lei identified the suspect as a 42-year-old surnamed Cheang. She told the police that she is unemployed. The local couple are in their forties whose surnames were not released. They told the police that they are unemployed. Lei said the couple are not involved in Macau’s casino VIP room operations.

According to Lei, the fraud happened on three occasions between August 22 and August 30 last year. During the couple’s overseas holiday, Cheang, their friend, cheated them by telling them that some gamblers had asked to borrow money from their VIP account, claiming that therefore she required their authorisation to sign on their behalf to withdraw HK$4 million from the account.
