This is just to set the record straight: Friday’s front-page article headed ‘Estoril mosaic to grace disease centre façade’ was a spoof news story marking April Fool’s Day. Judging by our conservations with readers, some would have liked the story to be “real”. Anyhow, we hope that the government will find a dignified solution to the future whereabouts of Hotel Estoril’s Fortuna mosaic, which should be preserved. We also hope that the government will be able to put citizens’ minds at ease as to the location and safety of the city’s urgently needed infectious disease centre. After all, Zika and other infectious diseases are rearing their ugly heads … Perhaps Fortuna – the deity of luck – can do her part to speed up the centre’s construction and ensure the mosaic’s preservation.
